I personally would vote for Family Guy. Nothing against Simpsons but I like the underdog tag Family Guy has for being cancelled by the idoits at Fox. Plus the show has only been on for four seasons and has just as big of a "loyal" following as the Simpsons. I mean come on its the only show to have been brought back from death based on its DVD sales.

According to a local paper: "An Exeter (England) woman has been jailed for three years for a campaign of harassment against a young girl, which a judge said was the most wicked crime he had ever seen.The young girl and her mother are now trying to rebuild their lives after an 18-month campaign of harassment by Kathryn Skinner, the woman they thought was a trusted family friend.Skinner, now 40, spiked children's drinks at birthday parties and put razor blades in school bags and lockers so her friend's daughter would get the blame.She stole money and planted it in the young girl's bedroom, slashed the family's clothes and even faked hate mail from the youngster claiming she was being mistreated by her mother.She did it in such a way that the youngster would be wrongly blamed - and she watched as the distressed girl was excluded from school, put into therapy and came close to being taken away from her distraught parents."

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to Ban Space Billboards

I wish that this was a joke, but the FAA proposed in May to amend its regulations to prohibit "obstrusive" advertising in space. I don't even know where to begin. I guess its good that the FAA has solved all of the other travel issues that concern the United States (e.g., terrorism). Boy, do I feel safer knowing that the agency has nothing better to do on earth and can now concentrate on the national crisis that is space travel.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and eBay

If your like me, you have probably had some personal item confiscated by the TSA security agents. Since 2002, the government agency has collected more than 18 million items. The question is what to do with this junk?

In cooridination with TSA officials, several states have placed the objects on eBay. However, if you want grandma's kitchen utensil you'll have to buy in bulk. So if you can use 100 pocket knives, then go to eBay and they can be yours.

I doubt this program will offset the cost of TSA operations, but it is a start. I support any idea that would lessen the burden on taxpayers. If the agency can make a few million dollars, or even a hundred thousand, I would say the eBay venture is a success.

Blaming Yalta: A Right Wing Canard? I Think Not.

Jacob Heibrunn of the Los Angeles Times wrote on May 10, 2005:

"The claim that Roosevelt betrayed Eastern Europe at Yalta, and that he set the stage for 40 years of Soviet domination, is an old right wing canard ... Bush was simply engaging in cheap historical revisionism. His glib comments belong to the Ann Coulter school or history."

Nearly eight years before, Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott (Clinton administration!) had this to say:

"After World War II ... many countries in the East suffered nearly half a century under the shadow of Yalta. That is a place name that has come to be a codeword for the cynical sacrifice of small nations' freedom to great powers' spheres of influence."

Is Belgium Real?

This might be one of the strangest sites I have come across. Here is just some of what the site has to say about Belgium:

I can hear the Left now: "But how could the existence of an entire country, albeit a small one, be a hoax?" Radical art types will, of course, ramble on and on about Rubens, Van Dyck, and other assumed Belgian artists that they learned about in their "Liberal Education" (read Liberal Indoctrination.) Public school teachers would point out that if it weren't for Belgium, there would be a blank spot between France and Netherlands on our maps, forgetting that the data for our maps came from the CIA-controlled spy-satellites. Some aging hippies may even claim to have bought drugs there, but of what value are the delusions of a stoned counter-culturalist. They will all vehemently disagree with you if you DARE doubt the existence of Belgium. They actually believe in it.

Students for Saving Social Security

Although I have my doubts about President George W. Bush on many issues, in the area of social security reform I support him 100%. His plan is to allow younger workers to open private retirement accounts that they would, in part, own and operate. The President has done much to promote this reform measure, but Congress has been unable or unwilling to help.

In an asserted effort to support the President's plan, a group of college students will be following members of Congress around "in waffle and duck costumes." These students will also talk to members of the Senate Finance Committee (the committee initially responsible for any Social Security legislation) in an effort to press for private accounts. As one of the group's members stated: "The government is spending our money. We don't want a handout. Just give us our money."

Although I would like the government to end this entitlement program, I support everything this group is doing. I understand my view is in the minority and the only thing I can do is press reform from the edges. Therefore, I support private accounts because they empower the individual over the state. Some may believe that the weakness of our capitalistic system necessities a social security "safety net," but I feel it breeds dependency and unrealistic expectations. Social security was never meant to be the primary means of retirement funding. However, some think that they can live off of a government check that would be a fifth of what an average worker made in a month.

Whoever reads this please think about the social and economic downfall and liabilities in keeping such a system in place and join me in advocating the reform (ending?) of social security.

This is the crap we are up against!

Mohammed Bouyeri, the guy who killed Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh, after admitting his guilt turned to Van Gogh's mother and said: "I don't feel your pain. I can't feel for you because I think you're a nonbeliever."

He went on to say that he killed Van Gogh "out of conviction." What is far worse is his final comment: "If I ever get free, I would do it again."

There people are nuts and should be locked up.

Isreal about to overtake the United States!

This time next year more Jews will be living in Isreal than any other part of the world. That includes the United States, which had this honor since the creation of the Jewish state.

Who will be the Ninth Justice?

I personally don't have a favorite for the next Supreme Court justice. Although much has been said about the possibility of selecting the first hispanic to the Court, I think the administration will have a hard time picking one. Its number one choice would be Gonzalas and I think conservatives would bring him down. Also, liberals don't have much to like since he was the central figure in the memo scandal.

If a selection is made, it should not be someone with no record or an affirmative action choice to just put a women or minority onto the Court. The ability and experience of the candidate should be of primary consideration. Though, as we all know, politics will enter into the selection. Bush probably cannot choose the recently confirmed Pryor, Owen, or Brown. They had been filibustered for the better part of two Congresses and Democrats would launch an even more bitter battle over any of their confirmations. In the end, President Bush has a difficult choice but so far his attempt to consult with a wide range of senators is helpful. It can only help him in the confirmation battle to come.

49er Video

Here is an article on the 49ers Video, but gets into a rant about 9er owner John York. Very good for those who can't stand the guy.


Real X-rated material left out of 49er video

The only funny thing about the now-infamous 49ers' training video is that for all the embarrassing situations it covered, it left out the most embarrassing one of all: How one of the NFL's signature franchises became a stumbling, bumbling, comically mismanaged shell of its former self.

Teams coming off a 2-14 season are understandably reluctant to put out commemorative videos. So for the moment, this soft-porn classic is all that hard-core fans will have to remember the team by. Viewed that way, it's a fitting tribute to an organization that in recent years made a raft of bad decisions followed by even worse ones. And nothing illustrates that better than the story of how a video designed to help players handle the media wound up in the hands of the media instead.

The in-house production apparently was the brainstorm of Kirk Reynolds, the team's likable public relations director, and shown to the players during training camp last August as part of a diversity workshop. Proving he's a better safety than a movie reviewer, the 49ers' Tony Parish described the content as "the same type of sarcasm and satire" that catapulted comedian Dave Chappelle to fame.

What that conveniently leaves out is that Chappelle is offensive AND funny. Reynold's video gets it only half right. It's chock-full with racist, sexist stereotypes and mocks San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom as a glad-handing bribe taker. Oddly, the 49ers might be the most enlightened organization in the league on matters of race and sex -- and possibly the only one extending domestic partner benefits to employees; plus, they're going to need Newsom's support to build the new stadium they so desperately covet.

Owner John York had nothing to do with making the film, but everything to do with fostering the back-stabbing, front-office culture that led to the video winding up in the mail at the San Francisco Chronicle and elsewhere. Since taking the reins in 1998, not long after a family power struggle left his wife, Denise DeBartolo York, in control of the team, York has made a mess of just about every department he's meddled in.

He marginalized white-haired eminence Bill Walsh, and eventually drove him back to Stanford. He chased off two coaches and just about emptied out the team's personnel, marketing, scouting and finance departments. In one memorable example of tightfistedness, York ordered cases of bottled water locked up to keep employees from taking them home. In another, he had to be shamed into paying for commemorative belt buckles for the players and staff after the 49ers won the NFC West title in 2002, a tradition that began in San Francisco's now-forgotten salad days.

But it wasn't penny-pinching that cost York and the franchise this latest embarrassment. Last fall, he signed ex-general manager Terry Donahue to a four-year extension, but by January decided to eat the contract and fire him. The day before he was let go, Donahue showed a 30-second clip from the video to York. According to the Chronicle, that was Donahue's attempt to discredit Reynolds, who Donahue believed was part of the effort to get him fired. In March, Donahue mailed a complete copy of the video to York at the owner's request. Apparently it sat in a drawer until this week, when the team issued a statement saying it was shocked -- shocked! -- by "how poor conduct can unintentionally make news."

If so, this is a franchise that desperately needed shocking. The good news is that the process is already in motion. York's micromanaging, timid leadership and miserly ways caused such a precipitous decline in the 49ers' fortunes that members of the DeBartolo family instructed him to loosen the purse strings. After consecutive years of being at or near the bottom of the payroll scale, San Francisco is spending money on new coach Mike Nolan, No. 1 pick Alex Smith and competing for free agents.

It's hardly the innovative, risk-taking, Super Bowl-or-bust approach the 49ers rode to dynastic heights with Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Steve Young, but it's a start. Besides, they can't sink much lower.

A purge at the end of the 2003 season saw a handful of stars and front line players traded or released. That, in turn, led to the 2-14 debacle, but it also freed up some cash.

If York us smart, he'll invest it in something other than making movies. After all, the on-the-field videos the 49ers have been turning out recently had plenty of X-rated action in them, too.

Kolb Must Go

Although the baseball gods count Kolb's latest effort to destroy the Braves as a loss, it really was just another example of how bad of a closer this guy has become. Was last year for real? Did he save 30 plus games only to come to Atl. to piss me off? Prob. not on both accounts. I cannot profess in any meaningful way the dislike I have for this guy. He is a cancer to the team and should be let go. However, the Braves organization has seen its way to keep this guy. Well, good job team. Way to go! Let Kolb blow/loose some more games.

49er Land

Looks like there is something going on in San Fran besides the Bonds watch. A tape made by 49ers public relatioins man, Kirk Reynolds, has forced him to resign. I don't know exactly what is on the tape other than what I read on the Mercury News website, but from what I do know it sounds pretty funny -- albeit in a non-PC way. I hope the tape makes its way on the Internet so I can view it.

Spyware

I don't know much about spyware, but seems that more is going on in the legal world with spyware than what many people know. It seems that some adware companies are threating legal action against these spyware firms. Kind of crazy if you ask me since most of adware companies haven't asked anyone if they could put these programs onto our personal computers.

Good news is that an anti-spyware bill is moving through Congress. Don't know if it will help, but at least someone is acting to try to stop spyware.
